Adjustable beds can be fantastic and offer a lot of great features, especially for those that share a bed with a partner. Knowing the right type of adjustable base bed frames offers you more freedom when it comes to choosing your sleeping position. They are definitely on the rise, and if these beds are attractive to you, then there are some pros and cons to think about before making the investment.

What is an adjustable base?

An adjustable bed base bed allows the sleeper to move the bed into a position that supports the natural curvature of the spine. By supporting the body in the ideal posture, it is possible to get a deeper, more restful night's sleep. An adjustable base provides the means to raise the head of the bed for those who have difficulty breathing or poor circulation.

If you have congestive heart failure or pulmonary disease that makes it hard to lie flat, then adjustable bed bases can provide the right inclination for optimal sleep.

Types of adjustable bed frames

Adjustable bed frames come in a variety of constructions with various options. It's possible to get adjustable bed frames which allow each sleeping partner to choose the position that works for each of them. Dual controls and the ability to choose the optimal position for each individual can allow both to get a better night's sleep.

Typical bed frames

Bed frames are expensive. Adjustable bed frames are no exception to the rule due to the extra features. Also, moving an adjustable base bed is very difficult. It's best to choose one room and one space where they will be permanently installed. However, after purchasing and installation, the quality of bed frames can't be beaten.

Advantages to adjustable beds

There are some definite advantages to adjustable beds that may be the key thing that you and your partner are looking for.

One of the best advantages that adjustable beds offer is improved blood circulation. Because You can adjust the bed to your specific need, you'll be able to enjoy a sleeping position that makes it easier for your heart to pump blood and for your legs to be able to pump that blood back to your heart. Also, if you have an injury or part of the bed that needs to be elevated, you can control that.

Better blood flow can also lead to less pain due to decreased muscle aches and loose joints.

Another example is a reduction in acid reflux symptoms. If you try to sleep in a traditional flat position on your mattress, then acid reflux can mess up a whole night's sleep. The bitter, bile-like taste in your mouth can cause you to wake up several times during the night, as well as the discomfort from the burning in your chest. However, if you sleep on an incline, then you can reduce these incidents.

Adjustable bed frames are also a great solution for those who have trouble getting in and out of bed and would like some more independence. Those with some sort of ailment that makes mobility difficult enjoy the freedom that adjustable beds offers.

Adjustable beds are also very comfortable. Some come with built-in massage equipment. These are vibrating motors that can relax sore muscles and provide a soothing, comfortable experience for the sleeper. The massage process can continue through many different activities including watching TV, reading, etc.

There is also a wide variety of adjustable beds, making it great for picking the best option that works for you, your budget, your space, etc. Most come in King and Queen standards, but there are other specifications that you can make if you need it.

Disadvantages of adjustable beds

The most determining factor of whether or not to get an adjustable bed is the price. Bed frames are already expensive, and then adding on extra functionalities just adds on extra costs. In order for the bed to work, you generally need a special mattress that can accomodate the adjustments. The combination of these two specialized pieces of furniture can certainly increase the price of your bed.

Also, adjustable beds can be loud. They are much noisier than non-adjustable ones. Due to the changes in weight distribution, the hardware is subject to squeaks, groans and other noises from the frame.

Adjustable beds are also very heavy, some weighing almost 1000 pounds. This makes the initial move-in very difficult and repositioning and relocating the bed can also be very difficult.

Throughout the night, movement of your body may be more difficult. Because the bed may be sectioned off with each side being able to adjust on its own, it may be difficult for an individual sleeping in one position to move to another, or even across the bed. This may prove to be a very uncomfortable feature of adjustable beds, potentially causing even less quality sleep than compared to others.

The last con to adjustable beds is that they have such unique sizing categories, that it can be hard to find fitted sheets and other accessories.

There are pros and cons to choosing this type of furniture, but it's important to pick the best one for you.
