How Sleeping Naked Could Benefit You

Sleep au natural may actually have some unknown benefits. Although we may be used to sleeping in pajamas, there may be some merit in ditching the clothes and letting our sheets surround us wholly. There isn't a lot of research on sleeping naked, but 29% of French individuals say they sleep naked, and there have been some noted health benefits. At the end of the day, your comfort will determine your ability to get a good night's sleep, however it may be a good option for you to try sleeping naked and see what that does for you. 

Benefits of sleeping naked 

It has not yet been heavily researched, but there are some noted benefits of sleeping naked. One of them, is that the comfort that comes from sleeping naked may help people fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. This can increase the amount of time people are asleep, helping them to reach their recommended seven to eight hours of optimal rest. Without enough sleep, people may suffer from health disease and diabetes, increased stress, among other things. 

Sleeping naked may also help for optimal sleeping temperature. Pajamas and other clothes can cause people to overheat, whereas sleeping naked could keep people cool enough to get good sleep. If they got too cold, it was easy to add another cover to help maintain enough heat for proper sleep. 

Better vaginal health 

Tight underwear that creates damp, moist, warm environments may be a breeding ground for yeast overgrowth. This can cause yeast infections which can lead to a burning and itching sensation that is very disruptive to sleep and uncomfortable to deal with during the day. By sleeping naked, women are not constricted and they are able to avoid this yeast overgrowth. 

Increased male fertility 

Men could also benefit from sleeping naked. Low sperm counts are associated with testicles that are two warm. By wearing ill-fitting and tight underwear, the testes may be too close to the body, warming them up to a temperature that severely impacts the motility and vitality of sperm. By sleeping naked, testicles have enough space to hang far enough away from the body to remain at a proper temperature. 

Increased self-esteem and closeness 

Sleeping naked has also been shown to increase self-esteem. Experiencing nakedness all the time helps to develop one's relationship with their own body. As people become more comfortable with their bodies and nakedness, they are able to increase their self-esteem and feel more confident about themselves. 

Sleeping naked with a partner can also increase closeness and feelings of intimacy. Constant skin to skin contact can reduce interpersonal stress and increase the connectedness between the two. Skin to skin also increases feelings of safety and love while also reducing anxiety.
